One of my best friends and roommates just pulled me into the kitchen to show me her dying fish. The poor little guy. It’s really a hilarious story, if you’re not offended by pets dying. She was transporting him in her car last week, when the fish bowl fell and he fell out on the floor board. She shuffled to get him back in, but in the process ripped a fin I think.
Now, he’s kind of floating vertically and really struggling. She really should get a bigger tank with these, so it’s not an issue. I feel sorry for her though. She’s sad. Maybe, I’ll buy her some organic makeup or Disney cars apparel to cheer her up. She likes both of those.
Just like Forrest’s momma said, dying is a part of living.
It was a good day today. Good music and got a lot of work done just helps you feel good about the day and what you got accomplished. Right on. Here are a few other things that make me feel like this: jumping around on the Indiana dunes, swimming in the ocean, catching some rays, going to concerts, finding a good Portland Oregon Photographer, a fatty omelette, a good hair day, Dermablend, some good tea, sleeping in and watching tv. All of these things make me want to say, right on.
I keep falling more and more in love with pirates. I mean, they were already cool, but then the movies came out on the Caribbean and they got cooler. Next, was National talk like a pirate day, which was so much fun. Then, recently, I went to a real pirates exhibit in town that was awesome.
My love has caused me to make all my decisions based on pirates. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I am going to throw a pirate birthday party. I bought a cool pirate hat. It’s going to be great. I also bought some new aquarium accessories to make sure my home is as full of pirates as I am. They look awesome. I would encourage everyone out there to explore the pirate that is within.
As I’ve observed my parents and parents both getting older, health care for seniors becomes more of an issue to me. I guess this is how it is for all people. We don’t worry about it until it effects us. The problem is that with the baby boomers getting older, it’s going to effect everyone.
Seniors have to deal with so many things as their bodies deteriorate. They have to find ways to take care of themselves. Sure, doctors and medicine help, but that’s not the only answer. Many look to eat better, exercise, and use aids in their homes. Many seniors choose to install bathtub inserts or a safe handicap accessible bathtub to avoid falls. Others have master bedrooms on the first floor, and so on. Many seniors have trouble with hips, knees, and feet. Those with plantar fasciitis need a good heel spur treatment. Many others turn to physical therapy.
As this issue grows, the government will spend more and more attention on it. However, the real work and responsibility lies within the families. This is where more people need to step up and help out.
It’s funny how things have changed from what we used to play with like 80’s Transformers Toys to see what kids play with now. Toy makers have adapted over time to give the kiddies what they like.
I’ve noticed this trend in the music industry as well. Because of the internet and sites like Pandora, everyone doesn’t have just a few favorite bands now. There are so many different bands who are being discovered through different venues like the internet that it has really changed the culture. It cuts down the fan base a bit from the megastars, but it gives the smaller guys a chance. Many more Davids to the Goliath’s now.
The internet continues to change how we live and our habits. Web 2.o is changing lives. Now, instead of going to the mall, waiting in traffic, I go online and buy pirate party supplies. It’s a snap. I’ll be curious to see how this trend continues to change the way we live our lives.
Mirrors. Pieces of glass that reflect an image. That’s all they are, and yet they can completely dominate our views of ourselves, our confidence, our ability to function. And yet they do very little to reflect the person. They only reflect the outside appearance.
I work on my appearance a lot. I watch what I eat. I workout. I use good products like Organic Cosmetics and others. I read health articles and watch videos on topical issues like plantar fasciitis. And yet, I never feel pretty enough. There’s always a better looking woman than me. I found a great lens on Squidoo about this subject called Beauty. Check it out if you get time.
I constantly fight body image. I constantly look at the scriptures to renew my mind (Rom 12:1-2). I fight it, and I love that my Lord loves my heart, soul, and mind, not just my body. Amen.
I volunteer for a non-profit organization called Young Life, and we are constantly trying to raise money for the area budget. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of research into selling things online. It really seems to me that this is possible if you find the right niche market. In fact, I’ve even found some companies out there who give you ecommerce lessons. If you have the right business model, you can sell anything from aquarium pumps to fantasy football knowledge to stuff like this. I’m definitely going to keep looking at it, because it may become a career path.
I was thinking back to my college the other day, a small Christian school, and all the stuff I was into. I had some crazy, fun times, but I’ve changed a lot since then. I used to be all about fashion accessories, like pirate jewelry. Now, I care much less about that. I was also remembering all of the intramural sports I played, which brought to mind a heel injury. Now, I see that you can go online for heel bone spur treatment, but back then it was torture walking to classes. One of the best things I would do was so soak in my parent’s tub with one of my favorite drinks. Oh well, those were good times, and I cherish the memories, but I wouldn’t go back.
My primary love language is not gifts, but when I do buy them for friends, I want them to be sweet. I have this friend who likes so many different things that she’s usually easy to buy for. For instance, I could go online and buy her some aquarium supplies for her fish or pirate weapons, and she’d love them both. I could even buy her this, and she’d be happy because she loves Disney. I wish all people were as easy to shop for as this friend. Typically, I’m trying to buy my dad something and he has like every tool known to man. I hate shopping for the person who has everything - but I love giving a gift to a grateful recipient. I wonder if that’s how God sees us. I recently saw a good skit called more Coke that made a good point about being satisfied with our spiritual gifts.
